Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Solvent ("Solvent," "we," "us," or "our") is a mobile budgeting and debt-elimination application for iOS and Android. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have.
The app is operated by B&B Dev LLC, located at PO Box 3791, Bloomington, IL 61702. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at support@solventapp.co.
This policy applies to the Solvent mobile app and the related contact/support form at solventapp.co/contact (together, the "Service"). It does not apply to any third-party services that Solvent links to or relies on, which are governed by their own privacy policies (see Section 6).
2. A note on how Solvent works (why this matters for your privacy)
Two things about Solvent's design shape everything in this policy:
- Manual entry only. Solvent does not connect to your bank, credit card, or any financial institution, and does not automatically import transactions. Every piece of financial information in the app is one that you (or a member of your household) typed in by hand.
- Shared household data. Solvent is built for couples and households to budget together. When you create or join a household, all financial data in that household — income, budget categories, transactions, debts, payments, and the debt-payoff plan — is shared with, and visible and editable by, every member of that household. If you share a household with another person, that person can see everything you enter into it, and you can see everything they enter. Please only invite people you trust with this information. See Section 7.
3. Information we collect
3.1 Information you provide directly
Account information (via Firebase Authentication). When you create an account, we collect:
- your email address;
- a password (if you sign up with email/password — passwords are handled by Firebase Authentication and are not stored by us in readable form);
- if you sign in with Google, the basic Google account identifiers Google returns to us (such as your email address, name, and a unique user ID);
- an optional display name and profile photo (URL) you choose to add.
Household information. When you create or join a household, we collect and store the household name, the list of members and their roles (owner/member), and invitations you create — which include a randomly generated invite code, and optionally the email address of the person you are inviting.
Financial information you enter manually. Because Solvent is a budgeting and debt tool, the information you enter is financial in nature. This may include:
- Income amounts and dates;
- Budget categories, category targets, icons/colors, and groupings;
- Transactions — amount, date, category, a payee/description, and an optional note;
- Debts — a name you give the debt, its type (e.g. credit card, student loan, auto, medical, personal), current and original balances, interest rate (APR), minimum payment, and due day;
- Payments you log against debts;
- Recurring charge templates (e.g. a subscription name and amount);
- your chosen payoff strategy (snowball/avalanche) and any extra monthly payment amount.
We record which household member created or entered a given item.
Support and feedback. If you contact us through our support/feedback form or by email, we collect the information you choose to provide — such as your name, email address, and the contents of your message.
3.2 Information collected automatically
Solvent does not include a third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK, and does not track your activity across other apps or websites. When you use the Service, our infrastructure providers (see Section 6) may automatically process limited technical data necessary to operate and secure the Service, such as your IP address, device and operating-system information, and timestamps of requests.
3.3 Information we do not collect
- We do not connect to your bank or card accounts and do not collect bank credentials, account numbers, or automatically imported transaction feeds.
- We do not collect precise geolocation.
- We do not collect government identifiers (e.g. Social Security numbers).
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. How we use your information
We use the information described above to:
- Provide the Service — create and authenticate your account, store and sync your household's budget, transactions, and debts across your devices and your household members in real time;
- Enable shared households — process invitations and manage household membership and roles;
- Calculate and display budget totals, surpluses/deficits, and debt-payoff projections (these are informational estimates, not financial advice);
- Respond to your support requests and feedback;
- Maintain security and integrity — detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and technical problems, and enforce our Terms of Service;
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
5. Legal bases for processing
Where required by applicable law (for example, in jurisdictions governed by the GDPR or UK GDPR), we process your personal data on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract — to provide the Service you sign up for;
- Consent — where you have given it (which you may withdraw at any time);
- Legitimate interests — to secure and improve the Service, provided these are not overridden by your rights;
- Legal obligation — to comply with applicable law.
6. Third-party services we use
We rely on the following third-party service providers ("processors") to operate the Service. Each processes data under its own terms and privacy policy:
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase / Cloud Firestore (Google LLC) | Cloud database, real-time sync, and hosting of your account and household data | Account info and all financial data you enter |
| Firebase Authentication (Google LLC) | Account creation and sign-in (email/password and Google sign-in) | Email, password (managed by Firebase), Google account identifiers |
| Google Sign-In (Google LLC) | Optional sign-in method | Basic Google profile identifiers |
| Apple App Store (Apple Inc.) / Google Play (Google LLC) | App distribution and, for any future paid features, purchase and subscription processing | Purchase/subscription records (handled by the store; we do not receive your payment card details) |
| Amazon Web Services (Amazon.com, Inc.) | Hosting and email delivery for the support/feedback form | Name, email, and message contents you submit |
Data hosting location. Solvent's day-one launch is United States only, and your data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure in the United States. If we later expand to other countries, your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States; where required, we will implement appropriate safeguards for such transfers and update this policy.
7. Shared households and what other members can see
This is important, so we state it plainly:
- When you join a household, you immediately gain access to all of that household's existing financial data, and every other member gains access to what you add.
- All members can read and edit the household's budget, transactions, categories, debts, and payments. Solvent shows which member entered a given item.
- The household owner (the person who created it) is treated as the owner of the household's data. If you leave or are removed from a household, you lose access to that household's data, and the data remains with the household for the remaining members. Leaving or being removed does not give you a right to a copy of the shared data.
- Only members of a household can read or write that household's data. This is enforced by server-side security rules.
8. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:
- With your household members, as described in Section 7.
- With service providers who process data on our behalf to operate the Service, as listed in Section 6.
- For legal reasons — if required to comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or an enforceable governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Solvent, our users, or the public.
- In a business transfer — if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
9. Data retention and deletion
- We retain your account and household data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service.
- You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings). When you delete your account:
- if you are the sole member of a household, that household and all of its nested financial data (categories, budget, transactions, debts, payments, invitations, and archived periods) are permanently deleted;
- if other members remain in a household, you are removed from it and the shared household data is retained for the remaining members (consistent with Section 7); if you were the owner, ownership passes to a remaining member;
- your user profile is deleted, and then your authentication account is deleted.
- Some information may persist for a limited time in backups or as required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements, after which it is deleted or de-identified.
- Deleting the app from your device does not delete your account; use the in-app account-deletion option.
10. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- Correction — you can edit most of your data directly in the app; you may also ask us to correct inaccurate information;
- Deletion — delete your account in the app, or ask us to delete your personal information (subject to the shared-household rules in Section 7 and legal retention exceptions);
- Portability — request your personal information in a portable format;
- Objection / restriction / withdrawal of consent, where applicable.
To exercise these rights, contact us at support@solventapp.co. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA). We do not sell or "share" (as defined under the CPRA) your personal information, and we do not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. You have the right to know, delete, and correct your personal information, and to be free from discrimination for exercising these rights. The categories of personal information we collect and our purposes are described in Sections 3 and 4.
Note on shared data. Because household financial data is shared and jointly controlled by household members, a deletion request from one member does not delete data that remains associated with a household that still has other members. See Section 7.
11. Security
We use Google Firebase's infrastructure, which encrypts data in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Access to each household's data is restricted to that household's members through server-side security rules. Despite these measures, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please use a strong, unique password and keep your sign-in credentials confidential.
12. Children's privacy
Solvent is a financial tool intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@solventapp.co and we will delete it.
13. International users
Solvent is currently offered in the United States only, and your data is stored in the United States. If we expand to additional countries in the future, we will update this policy and, where required, provide additional disclosures and safeguards for that region (for example, local breach-notification details and any other obligations that apply there).
14. Not financial advice
Solvent's budget summaries and debt-payoff projections (including projected debt-free dates and interest totals) are informational estimates only and do not constitute financial, tax, or legal advice. This section is included for transparency; see our Terms of Service for the full disclaimer.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice (for example, in the app). Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
